INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Working & Handling Brazilian Teak decking

High Quality Brazilian Teak from Conrad Forest Products is supplied Kiln Dried. This helps prevent excessive cracking and warping found in air dried hardwood decking.

Span between joists.
Allowable Spans
Nominal size 100 psf
1 x 4 & 1 x 6 24”
5/4 x 6 32”
2 x 4 & 2 x 6 32”

Store in shaded area until ready to install.

Ventilation: We recommend 1 square foot netfree ventilation area per every 20 ft. of deck surface area. This is vital for the long term stability of the deck; this also helps prevent any mold, mildew or fungus from forming underneath the deck.

Gapping: Since Brazilian Teak Decking is supplied Kiln Dried the shrinkage will be low. Minimum gap should be 3/16” with a 1/4” being suggested. A 1/4” gap between boards gives 1 square foot of net free ventilation for every 24 square feet of deck coverage.

Fastening: We recommend using high grade stainless steel or other coated fasteners with 2 screws per joist. Pre-drill screw holes, especially at the ends of the board where splitting is common. Fastener length should be the thickness of the material times 2 ½+.
Cutting: Use carbide saws and high quality drill bits. After each cut and before installation the board must have end seal applied to the end grain of the board. Ask your lumberyard for the product that they stock.

Finishing: Before applying any finish first clean and remove any residue from the deck surface. Use a penetrating oil like Penofin or similar for best results. These products help stabilize and keep the Brazilian Teak’s color.

We endeavor to give the purchaser accurate and reliable information, but due to the variable of natural products we cannot assume any liability or suitability of the use of Brazilian Teak on any particular application. It is the responsibility of the owner & installer to test and determine the suitability of the use of these products in the final application.
